Elon Musk Says Twitter Will Soon Change Its Brand to “X”

Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Twitter, caused a stir with his recent tweets, hinting at a rebranding of the social platform. Musk shared an animated gif of a stylized “X” against a black background, suggesting that the brand might change to this new symbol. He playfully stated that if a good enough X logo was posted that night, the change would go live worldwide the next day. Musk further expressed that eventually, the “Twitter” brand, and even the bird logo, would bid adieu.

However, it’s challenging to gauge how serious Musk is, as he’s known for making intriguing remarks and not always following through on them. His fascination with the letter “X” is evident, showcased in his tweet where he struck an “X” pose in front of a Tesla Model X sign. He also has a son named X Æ A-12 Musk, and he previously founded X.com, which eventually merged into PayPal.

Under the proposed change, tweets would be called “X,” and followers would be referred to as “viewers,” aiming to make Twitter more akin to platforms like TikTok or YouTube. The move indicates a shift towards greater interactivity through audio, video, messaging, and banking features, powered by AI, to create a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.

While Elon Musk seems excited about this idea, it remains uncertain if he discussed the name change with Twitter’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino. She has been emphasizing Twitter’s reach and its role as a platform for premium video content. Despite this uncertainty, Yaccarino recently posted tweets, including the new interim logo design for “X,” suggesting that the change is indeed underway. She envisions “X” as the future state of unlimited interactivity, connecting people in groundbreaking ways that are just beginning to unfold.
